PS5 & Xbox Series X Reveals Shifted, PS5 Reveal Could Happen in May

The cancellation of E3 2020 has resulted in planned reveals disrupted.  Insider suggests Sony is gearing up for a proper PlayStation 5 showcase in May.

Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad took to Twitter late yesterday to reveal that many of the announcements planned for the now-canceled E3 week in early June may come later or even earlier. The pandemic appears to have affected pre-coronavirus marketing plans, including those for the PlayStation 5.

Some are now much earlier, others much later. The first proper next-gen console/games showcase is much earlier too.

This is the one time I will actually add a caveat, for the last sentence in this case, as we are living through an unprecedented situation and this is the one time where external factors such as COVID-19 could actually change plans right at the last minute. But we’ll see.

VGC also published a piece stating that, according to a source, Sony was gearing up for a ‘significant’ PS5 reveal in May, with its reveal of the DualSense being ‘hurried.’

Microsoft reportedly has May reveals planned for the Xbox Series X, as well as a digital showcase in place of E3.

Late last week, Sony laid out plans for its investor relations schedule for the fiscal year ending Mar 31, 2021. Sony will host an earnings call on May 13 and a corporate strategy meeting on May 19.
