Move disrupts further Apple, Amazon and Huawei production.
iPhone supplier Foxconn, planned to resume production on Monday but has been called off by the Chinese authorities.
This further worsens the supply chain for global electronics companies, including Apple, Amazon, Google and Huawei. Foxconn happens to be the world’s biggest iPhone assembler, as it makes Huawei smartphones and Amazon Kindle tablets. It also supplies HP, Dell and most major electronics brands.
Foxconn’s Zhengzhou complex, the world’s biggest iPhone production base, canceled plans to resume work on Monday.
“Violation of epidemic prevention and control could potentially face the death penalty. The local governments do not want to risk the potential virus spreading in such a labor-intensive working environment. No one wants to bear the responsibility of restarting work at this critical moment.”
